Ford’s new EcoSport city-SUV has been awarded a maximum five-star safety rating by the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP), despite receiving only four from Euro NCAP last month.
The EcoSport’s better local safety rating is due to discrepancies between the testing methods of Euro NCAP and its Australia affiliate, which awarded a maximum five-star safety rating to no fewer than nine vehicles in its latest round of crash testing.
They include the EcoSport, Fiat Panda, Suzuki S-Cross, Isuzu’s D-MAX 4x4 Crew Cab and MU-X SUV, Nissan’s Altima and Pulsar hatch, the Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class and all Toyota HiLux 4x4 dual-cabs.
“There is an exceptional range of five-star cars across all market segments,” said ANCAP Chairman Lauchlan McIntosh.
“Whether you are after a large car, an SUV, a people-mover, a small car, it doesn’t matter – there are many five-star cars in every market category – accept nothing less.”
