And then there were 10…

Lexus secures yet another LFA supercar for Australia

Lexus has scored a tenth LFA supercar for Australia – twice the initial forecast allocation, and one more than its most recent tally of nine.

The $700,000 V10-powered machines are all spoken for and Lexus dealers believe they could sell another three or four cars if they could get supply.

"We've just managed to secure a 10th car," said Lexus Australia corporate manager of marketing and aftersales, Peter Evans. "One became available elsewhere in the right-hand-drive world and we snapped it up."

As is the case with most super luxury brands, Lexus won't say who the customers are – but says it could sell more cars if it could get them.

Lexus has sold 173 of the supercars in North America and 150 in Japan. Only 500 will be built in total for the world.

The tally of 10 brings Lexus Australia in line with the LFA count in Canada – which has a 50 per cent higher population (33 million compared with 22 million).

"We've been blown away by the reaction and response to the car," said Evans, who hinted that there may be more vehicles like it in the future.

"Lexus changed its hierarchy structure as of January this year and Lexus now reports directly to the man at the top of the company [Akio Toyoda], instead of through three layers of [Toyota] management."

Akio Toyoda is known for his passion of motorsport and exciting cars and has himself competed in the Nurburgring 24 Hour race – in an LFA.

"We know we lead the luxury market in quality, technology and environment, [it's now a matter of improving] cars with passion."

The Lexus LFA is the fastest and most powerful car built by Toyota or Lexus. The 1480kg two-seater is powered by a 4.8-litre V10 engine (412kW and 480Nm) matched to a six-speed semi-automatic gearbox. It can sprint from rest to 100km/h in 3.7 seconds and has a top speed of 326km/h.

Although only 10 cars are planned for Australia, in true supercar style it will take Lexus up to two years to fill the orders. Although Lexus had a demonstrator model at the Qantas Australian Formula One Grand Prix, the first Australian customer car is due to arrive mid-year.
