First there were the 911 and Boxster S Black Editions. Now Porsche has given its mid-engine sports coupe, the 'Black' treatment with a limited edition version of the Cayman S available later this year.
Just 500 of the Cayman S Black Edition will be built, boasting increased performance and more equipment but with no increase in pricing over the standard Cayman S. Power from the 3.4-litre six-cylinder boxer engine has been increased by 7kW to 243kW at 7400rpm (an additional 200rpm) while maximum torque remains unchanged at 370Nm at 4750rpm.
As a result Porsche says the Cayman S Black Edition is 0.1 secs quicker to 100km/h than the Cayman S – down to 5.1 secs with the six-speed manual gearbox, 5.0 secs with the optional seven-speed PDK, or 4.8 secs with PDK and the activation of Launch Control with the
optional Sport Chrono package. Top speed is 279km/h.
Additional standard equipment on the Cayman S Black Edition includes black 19-inch Boxster Spyder alloy wheels (with 235/35 ZR 19 front and 265/35 ZR 19 rear rubber), Bi-Xenon headlights with dynamic cornering lights, exterior mirrors with integrated rain sensor, and a Sport Design steering wheel.
As well as the glossy black paintjob, the interior also gets the 'Black' treatment with black-coloured dashboard trim, gear lever/selector trim and instrument dials. The words "Black Edition" also feature on the door entry sills while the limited edition build number is on the glovebox lid.
Australian deliveries of the Cayman S Black Edition begin in September, priced from $147,500.
