The concept of amphibious cars – vehicles that can double as a boat if and when needed – has long entertained generations of dreamers, tech gurus and adventurers.
But what if we jumbled up the recipe a bit? Specifically, how about a boat that looks like a car and can (sort of) drive up onto the shore…?
Well just such a thing is coming to the Gold Coast courtesy of Jetcar Australia, which will offer guided tours of the city’s waterways in water-propelled crafts modelled on the latest Chevrolet Corvette.

Details are thin on the ground for now, but the vessels are surprisingly accurate in their styling and will no doubt turn the heads of a few unsuspecting motoring fans as they cruise past in a canal rather than a beachfront boulevard.
Exactly how fast the ‘jetcars’ are remains to be seen – plenty fast, judging by the social media teasers – but proper ’Vette fans will be buoyed to know the boats are good for almost endless donuts and you’re less likely to get done for hooning than in a real C8.
No doubt the novelty of the car-like controls and bodywork will be a big hit with car and water sports fans alike.
