Aston Martin's global chief Andy Palmer will spearhead a factory-backed assault on next year's Bathurst 12 Hour by the British sports car brand.
The outspoken former Nissan product chief confirmed to motoring.com.au at this week's Geneva motor show that he would be in the driver's seat for the 2017 Bathurst sports car enduro next February.
"I'll see you at Bathurst next year," he said. "I'll be racing there and I'm looking forward to ticking it off my list, but won't be aiming for outright honours."
Palmer will campaign a single car alongside one of Aston Martin’s factory GT3 drivers and the pair could be joined by an as-yet-unnamed local driver.
The trio will drive a factory-backed, GT3- or GT4-spec version of the Aston Martin V8 Vantage GTE, which was revealed last month (pictured).
The GTE will compete for class honours in the 2016 World Endurance Championship – including the Le Mans 24-hour -- alongside cars from Audi, Porsche, Ford and Ferrari.
Wrapped in 'Stirling Green’ paint, the GTE aims to better Aston's third-place finish in the GT manufacturers’ standings in 2015, with two cars confirmed for the GTE Pro class and a third entry locked in for the lower GTE Am category.
