All-new from the ground up, Aston Martin’s latest race car, named AMR-One, has been unveiled at the Geneva international motor show.
Powered by a bespoke, in-line six-cylinder engine, the AMR-One is both direct injected and tubocharged to deliver 'approximately' 400kW. Power is delivered to the rear wheels via a six-speed traverse-mounted automatic pneumatic shift transmission courtesy of Xtrac racing.
Utilising a lightweight carbon-fibre monocoque open top chassis, and finished in Gulf livery, Aston Martin intends to enter the AMR-One in the Le Mans Cup and has already confirmed its driver lineup and planned race programme.
A total of six AMR-Ones will be built, all sharing design origins with the road-going Aston Martin One-77 (which also features a carbon-fibre monocoque). Designers at Gaydon say the AMR-One was developed closely with the team’s engineers to ensure the optimum blend of aesthetics and aerodynamics.
"Aston Martin's heritage is deeply rooted in endurance sports car racing, so in 2011, we take the next step demonstrating that a small team using advanced design and engineering intelligence will be agile and competitive," explained Aston Martin’s CEO, Dr. Ulrich Bez.
It is expected that the AMR-One will contend selected races in the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup with rounds in the US, Belgium, France, Italy, England and China. The car will make its debut at Paul Ricard on April 1.
