Aston Martin DB10 up for auction
Vehicular star of James Bond flick 'Spectre' to raise money for charity Médecins Sans FrontièresFamed auction house Christies has been charged with the task of selling an Aston Martin DB10 that featured in the latest James Bond movie, 'Spectre'.
The DB10 is one of just 10 built by Aston Martin for the film, and will be one of 10 lots to be sold live on February 18. Telephone and internet bids are welcome for the live auction, the auction house advises. A further 14 lots will be sold through an online auction held between February 16 to 23.
Proceeds from the goods sold through 'Spectre – The Auction' will be donated to the charity Médecins Sans Frontières, and Christies anticipates raising over £1 million from the sale of the DB10 itself.
'Spectre' is the 24th James Bond film to be made by Eon Productions since the very first, 'Dr No' in 1962. From the third film in the Eon series, 'Goldfinger', the Bond character has had an on-again/off-again relationship with the Aston Martin brand. The car that has come to epitomise Bond in film, in fact, was the Aston Martin DB5 that has appeared intermittently right throughout the series, including the two most recent works, 'Spectre' and 'Skyfall'.
In Ian Fleming's books, which inspired the films, Bond was usually behind the wheel of a Bentley.
The DB10 is powered by a 4.7-litre petrol V8 and drives through a six-speed manual transmission. All external panels are carbon fibre and the interior is laden with leather, carbon fibre and aluminium. While most of the DB10s appearing in the film have been modified, the car being sold is one of two 'show' cars that have remained unmolested – other than bearing the signature of leading actor Daniel Craig. The car also appeared on display at Royal Albert Hall in London for the film's premiere.
Christies stresses that the car being sold is not homologated and cannot be registered for road use. It has undergone no safety or emissions testing that would permit it to be considered roadworthy. Furthermore, the car is sold without any warranty whatsoever and the sale of the car does not include intellectual property (IP) rights that remain property of Aston Martin Lagonda Limited.
