Aston Martin DB11 replacement teased

British performance car brand to unveil the next instalment in its DB lineage later this month

Aston Martin will unveil the next chapter of its DB-badged sports car story later this month, when the replacement for the DB11 makes its world debut on May 24.

The DB11 was the first of the new-generation Aston Martin models to capitalise on the storied British brand’s technical tie-up with Mercedes-AMG.

The svelte 2+2 coupe was launched in 2016 as a V12, with the better balanced and still blindingly quick twin-turbo V8 following a year later.

Unofficially dubbed DB12 by many, the new car isn’t expected to break new ground. The DB11’s choice of V8 and V12 engines is expected to be retained, the latter potentially with mild-hybrid electrification to help reduce emissions and fuel consumption.

“Core values of high-performance and ultra-luxury are spearheading Aston Martin’s next generation of sports cars, and this first model will be a stunning example of what’s to come,” said Aston Martin.

“A generation [of cars] that will see all Aston Martin models characterised by prodigious performance and pinpoint driving dynamics, seamless integration of advanced technologies and the sublime style and impeccable craftsmanship for which the brand has long been renowned.”

Aston is further claiming the new car will “break free from the norms of the GT sector, creating a new category of one”.

The company has previously made claims around using 100 recycled aluminium in its vehicles, as well as a range of environmentally sensitive interior materials and vegan surfacing options. The new model will likely introduce all of these steps to the Aston toolbox.

Teaser shots of the new Aston Martin show similar proportions to the existing car, although there’s definitely stronger traditional DB cues to the front-end.

There’s more sculpture to the long clamshell bonnet and the grille grows in width, giving the new car a face that reprises the DBS Superleggera, although with strong horizontal elements.

Interior shots show a host of smart systems including an active exhaust, adaptable damping, parking assistance and cameras, as well as controls that hint at the addition of the autonomous driving functions the DB11 lacked.

The gearshifter arrangement with push-button Park looks to have migrated straight from high-end AMG models.

May 24 should deliver the answer to many of the above questions. And our first drive impressions won’t be too far away either.

First media drives of the new Aston Martin DB are expected to take place in Europe in mid-June, before first Australian deliveries take place around March 2024.
