Aston Martin DBS 770 Ultimate marks end for V12 coupe

Swansong for twin-turbo V12 Aston Martin DBS previewed ahead of launch later this year

Aston Martin has released a teaser image for the 2023 Aston Martin DBS 770 Ultimate limited-edition coupe that signals the end of the V12-powered DBS Superleggera.

The headline news is that power generated from the already mighty twin-turbocharged 5.2-litre V12 has been boosted from 533kW to more than 566kW.

Expect new wheels and a revised body kit that includes a new aerodynamics pack.

There’s also numerous chassis upgrades helping it manage the extra output, and visual changes too, although expect those to be of the subtle kind with the DBS 770 Ultimate keeping its front lamps and slippery profile.

Inside, we’re anticipating a pair of bespoke seats and new colour and trim options to help owners customise their cabin.

It’s not known if engineers are working on shaving any more mass off the carbon-fibre-bodied DBS that tips the scales at around 1693kg (dry).

Like before, we expect the DBS 770 to only be available with the standard car’s eight-speed automatic transmission that sends power and torque to the rear wheels.

With the extra power (and expected bump in torque), the V12 Aston should be even quicker from 0-100km/h than the standard car that takes just 3.4 seconds, while the 340km/h top speed is also expected to rise.

Aston Martin has yet to detail how it will hone the handling of the DBS Superleggera but says it will feature a “sharper dynamic focus”, hinting at a more aggressive set-up and a more compromised ride.

When introduced later this year, Aston Martin says it will make just 499 DBS 770 Ultimate cars.

Pricing has not yet been disclosed, but expect a healthy premium over the regular DBS Superleggera’s already substantial starting price of more than $530,000 (plus on-road costs).
