Aston Martin recently announced plans to chalk up its 100th birthday with a series of celebratory events, and now the British sportscar specialist has revealed a Centenary Edition Vanquish, of which 100 examples will be sold globally. There will also be Centenary Editions of the V8 Vantage, DB9 and Rapide – each restricted to 100 examples. They are now available to order in each of the 46 countries Aston is sold in, with pricing conveyed on application.
Befitting their low-volume status, the Centenary Edition cars feature a bespoke paint finish and solid sterling silver Aston Martin wing badges with tailored ‘trans flux’ enamel inlay.
According to Aston, creating the unique Centenary Edition paint finish adds an average of 18 hours to a paint process that can already take more than 50 hours to complete.
The graduated finish is built by adding special ‘tinters’ to create the darker inner colour, and this custom-made mixture is then applied to each panel by hand, using a special mini-jet spray gun.
“The team has looked closely at the individual contour lines of each of the cars to determine not only the right colours and shades, but also to create a template by which the paint changes from dark to light and where the graduated effect sits,” Aston Martin design director Marek Reichman explained.
Interior upgrades include ‘Deep Soft’ black leather – previously reserved for the One-77 hypercar – with contrasting silver stitching. There’s also silver thread embroidery of the Aston Martin wings in the head restraints and solid sterling silver sill plaques individually numbered with an Aston Martin hallmark.
Adding to the sense of occasion, each Centenary Edition model will be supplied with a presentation box containing various mementos symbolising the marque’s 100th anniversary. These include two glass keys, two bespoke key pouches made from leather matching the car’s interior trim, solid silver cufflinks featuring the Aston Martin script, a solid-silver Rollerball pen and high quality Bang & Olufsen headphones.
The gift box also includes a silver polishing cloth to help owners ensure the silver centenary wings badges and sill plaques on their car keep their lustre.
“Clearly, the centenary of Aston Martin is a great occasion for our business, our customers, and our fans around the world,” said Aston Martin CEO Dr Ulrich Bez. “It is only right, then, that we have developed these exceptional Centenary Edition models which will, I am sure, quickly become highly desirable and sought-after.”
This is, of course, marketing spin, but there may be an element of truth in Dr Bez’s spiel as the Centenary Editions’ relatively low-volume production runs could make them collectables in years to come.
