Aston Martin says it is unaffected by the ongoing V8 supply issue that has hit Mercedes-Benz in the US, confirming the current Aston Martin DB11, DBX and Vantage models will remain powered by the AMG-sourced 4.0-litre twin-turbo.
In the US, Mercedes-Benz confirmed earlier this month that the powerful V8 would be dropped from almost every model line from the 2022 model year, citing global supply chain issues as among the reasons for dropping it.
According to well-placed sources, in a matter of months Benz will no longer offer the Mercedes-AMG C 63 (previous gen), GLC 63, E 63, GLE 580, GLS 63, GLS 600 Maybach and the G 63, with only the recently introduced S 580 and Mercedes-Maybach S 580 unaffected.
Confirming the British car-maker would not have to withdraw the AMG powertrain from its range, an Aston Martin spokesman told US mag Car and Driver: "Aston Martin confirms that its supply of V8 engines from Aston Martin AG is not affected."
As well as limitations on supply, it's been reported that the German car-maker also dropped the V8 in the US as part of plans to slash its global emissions.
Officially commenting on the shock announcement that the V8 would no longer be offered on most models, Mercedes-Benz said its "prioritised focus to comply with various global, external and internal requirements, as well as several other factors, including but not limited to challenges in the supply chain, have an impact on the offering of the product portfolio in various markets”.
Sending prices skyrocketing for in-demand models, like the current Mercedes-AMG G 63, shocked buyers have only recently been informed that pre-ordered models would no longer be arriving as originally planned.
