Aston Martin's latest magnum opus, the completely bonkers $5million AM-RB 001 concept car finally has a name: Valkyrie.
The vehicle adheres to Aston Martin's tradition of naming its vehicle with a V, a curious convention that started back in 1951 with the original Vantage.
Although Aston Martin doesn't go into too much detail about the name choice, the company's chief designer, Marek Reichman, said "Aston Martin model names have deep meaning. They need to inspire and excite. To tell a story and enrich a narrative that stretches back some 104-years."
A Valkyrie is a mythological female Viking god who chose who lived and who died on the battlefield. The name stems from the ancient Norse term valkyrja, which is understood to mean 'chooser of the slain'.
"The connotations of power and honour, of being chosen by the Gods are so evocative, and so pertinent to a car that only a fortunate few will ever experience," added Reichman.
Powered by a storming naturally-aspirated 6.5-litre V12 engine built by Cosworth, the Aston Martin Valkyrie is already sold out, with all 150 cars snapped up by well-heeled collectors.
The beefy 12-pot engine will be augmented by an electric motor and battery hybrid module supplied by Croatian EV supercar company Rimac.
Combined, the powertrain will belt out around 745kW, or 1000hp. It'll put its power to the ground via a seven-speed paddle-shift automatic gearbox built by UK motorsport outfit Ricardo.
The brakes for the scorching new Aston Martin Valkyrie are supplied by Alcon and Surface Transforms, and will have to be pretty epic to slow the high-speed road rocket, which is expected to scorch from 0-100km/h in about 2.2 seconds.
However the biggest weapon up the cars sleeve will be its aerodynamics, which have developed by Red Bull Racing's F1 aero genius, Adrian Newey.
