Audi's long-awaited rival to the Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe and BMW 4 Series, has been exposed today – well, partially.
The Audi A5 Coupe's silhouette has been revealed on the Audi media website along with the hashtag #nowthatsacoupe and a countdown timer indicating its June 2 unveiling.
The premiere will be streamed live on the same Audi launch page for those not in Ingolstadt at the time.
A couple of new details can be garnered from the camouflaged silhouette, such as the car's more aggressive front end design, with design elements drawn from the new Audi R8 supercar and Audi TT coupe.
The boot deck also appears to have a slight upward kick, although Ford Mustang buyers are unlikely to be tempted by the new A5, which will cost considerably more, currently priced between $68,200 and $119,510.
Audi is calling the A5 Coupe a "design icon" – a title that's been bandied about somewhat within the brand – and the sleek new model is expected to arrive in Australia early in 2016.
Several variants will be offered over time starting with entry-level four-cylinder turbo-petrol and diesel cars. There is also conjecture that the S5 will be revealed at the premiere. The over-the-top S5 could be packing some serious heat in the form of a 260kW, 500Nm turbo-petrol V6 donk hooked up to an AWD, eight-speed transmission.
Based on the same modular platform (MLB) as the Audi A4, the new A5 is expected to deliver plenty of advanced new tech, along with improved levels of luxury, performance and efficiency – not to mention a striking new look.
The premiere of the A5 in Germany will revolve around an outlandish 10-minute audio-visual display by Hungarian artists "Maxin10sity".
