Audi creates history at Sebring 12 Hour

Renault continues its winning ways, Audi oiler wins Sebring and girls nail NHRA at Gainsville

This weekend's motor racing round-up by Brett Ramsey

F1
Renault continued its sure-fire form in this season's Formula One Championship with Giancarlo Fisichella leading home team-mate Fernando Alonso to take his first Grand Prix win since Melbourne last year, and giving Renault its first quinella since the 1982 French GP.

Fisichella led from pole to flag, finishing some four seconds ahead of his teammate with Honda's Jenson Button third.

Juan Pablo Montoya finished fourth in his McLaren Mercedes, ahead of Ferrari drivers Felipe Massa and Michael Schumacher.

It was a bad weekend for the Williams Cosworth team with Nico Rosberg first to go with an engine blow up on lap seven before Mark Webber retired on lap 16 with hydraulic failure.

ALMS
Motorsport history was created last weekend at Sebring in the USA as Audi became the first manufacturer to win a major international motor race with a diesel-fuelled car.

Making its world race debut the new Audi R10 of Dindo Capello, Tom Kristensen and Allan McNish won the 12-hour race at Sebring, with Kristensen becoming the first driver to win America's most famous endurance race for the fourth time.

The Lola B05/40 AER of Jon Field, Liz Halliday and Clint Field won the LMP2 class with second overall, ahead of the GT1-winning Corvette C6 of Jan Magnussen Oliver Gavin and Olivier Beretta.

Australian Jason Bright co-driving the Aston Martin DB9 with Pedro Lamy and Stephane Sarrazin finished fourth overall and second in GT1.

Fellow Aussie David Brabham won the GT2 class after he and co-drivers Scot Maxwell and Champ Car star Sebastian Bourdais drove their Panoz Esperante GTLM to ninth overall.

NHRA
Australian Top Fuel driver Dave Grubnic has won his second-ever NHRA Top Fuel event at the 37th Annual ACDelco Gatornationals at Gainesville Raceway.

Grubnic defeated Melanie Troxel in the final after Troxel's Skull Gear/Torco Race Fuels dragster lost traction, allowing the Brisbane-born Grubnic to take the win in 4.943 seconds at 317.90mph in his StriVectin S-D dragster.

It was a good weekend for the girls with three of the four Pro category finals featuring women.

Angelle Sampey rode to a victory in Pro-Stock Motorcycle while Erica Enders just failed to make it in her Pro-Stock Chevy Cobalt losing to the Dodge Stratus of Tom Marino.

Ron Capps beat John Force in the Funny Cars, while Force's daughter Ashley managed the win in the Top Alcohol Sports.
