Audi e-tron GT concept exposed

What's got multi-coloured wheels, is virtually silent in operation and will blitz the 0-100km/h sprint faster than most Italian exotics?

Audi has pulled the trigger early on its release of the Audi e-tron GT concept, uploading three images of the camouflaged car after it was leaked on Autospies.com.

The official images weren’t supposed to be shown for another day and expose the front, rear and side of the new Audi, which has visual ties to the Audi A7 Sportback and almost looks like a stretched version of the Audi TT.

There is also a fourth image showing the headlights without camo.

Full details will be revealed at the Audi e-tron GT concept's public premiere at the Los Angeles motor show but it is understood the Tesla Model S competitor is based on the same J1 platform as the upcoming Porsche Taycan.

And that means it'll be crazy fast.

While the Audi e-tron SUV will sprint to 100km/h in just under six seconds, the e-tron GT is tipped to blitz the automotive acceleration benchmark in under three seconds.

That would make it one of the most ballistic Audis ever built.

Teased and tantalised for weeks, the final design looks ready for production and doesn’t seem deserving of the 'concept' tag. As well as delivering supercar-like performance, the all-electric Audi e-tron GT will have a cruising range of around 500km, based on the Porsche Taycan's specifications.

The J1 platform underneath the Taycan and therefore presumably this four-door liftback is different to other e-tron models and made from a combination of exotic materials such as carbon-fibre and aluminium, with an eye towards keeping weight at around 2000kg.

The Audi e-tron GT concept could get a small 100-litre frunk at the front, where the engine would traditionally sit, and a much larger boot in the rear.

Unlike the Audi e-tron SUV that will launch in Australia in 2019, the e-tron GT does not appear to have video cameras replacing the wing mirrors.

Charging time for the Audi e-tron GT is expected to be one of its aces, the 800-volt battery system enabling ultra-fast charging of up to 80 per cent capacity in just 15 minutes when using a 350kW fast-charging station.

It's also understood Hollywood megastar Robert Downey Jr, of Iron Man fame, will help present the Audi e-tron GT concept at the LA motor show.

Production versions of the Audi e-tron GT are expected to hit the streets in 2020 and Audi Australia has previously stated that it will offer every single EV the company builds – 12 of them by 2025 – to Aussie customers.
