Audi e-tron GT EV to get RS treatment

Audi Sport has begun creating a high-performance version of the forthcoming Audi e-tron GT sedan that will see the brand go head-to-head with the Porsche Taycan Turbo S.

Back in 2018 at the LA motor show, Audi revealed the sporty e-tron GT, that shares its J1 platform with Porsche's Taycan, packing twin electric motors that generated a potent 434kW.

That was enough sizzle for the concept to reach 100km/h from standstill in less that 3.5 seconds and top out at a limited 240km/h. But those numbers won't cut it for a fully-fledged RS version.

Instead, the e-tron GT is tipped to match or even exceed the Taycan Turbo S's herculean 560kW and 1050Nm of torque.

That means the Audi e-tron GT RS is set to be the quickest Audi ever made, with the 0-100km/h set to be less than 2.8 seconds and 0-200km/h in less than ten seconds.

As well as the RS, Audi Sport is also working on an 'S' model, says the Brit mag.

Like other RS models, including the recently-launched RS Q8, a healthy power boost is only part of the story for what Audi Sport has planned for the e-tron GT.

The rapid four-door sedan will also get a dedicated chassis tune, and a completely re-calibrated virtual all-wheel drive that will see the twin electric motors replicate a more engaging rear-wheel drive-biased setup.

Plug-in hybrid powertrains, meanwhile, will underpin next-generation models like the Audi RS 4 that is set to get electrified four-cylinder turbo engines that will produce around 400kW.
