Audi introduced the Q7 4.2 TDI V8 to local and international media back in September, when it flew out two cars for the 'Trans-Continental Crossing' event.
The Q7 4.2 TDI is now available to the Australian buying public and offers consumers 760Nm of torque from as low as 1800rpm, through to 2500rpm.
With that sort of torque -- and a power rating of 240kW -- the new model will accelerate to 100km/h from a standing start in 6.4 seconds and top 236km/h.
Despite being a hot rod among SUVs, the Q7 4.2 TDI will use just 11.1L/100km in combined cycle testing. The engine is basically the same as that fitted to the A8 4.2 TDI quattro (more here), but with an extra 110Nm of torque available.
As in the case of the A8, the Q7 with this engine drives through a six-speed 'tiptronic' automatic transmission. The torque split is 40/60 front to back in normal driving.
Equipped to the same level as the Q7 4.2 V8 petrol model, the diesel V8 variant is fitted with air suspension as standard. Other standard features include 'lane assist', a reverse parking camera, adaptive cruise control, brake assist and 'side assist'. Lane assist alerts the driver if the vehicle begins to move out of its lane without indication and side assist is a radar-based system that monitors vehicles in the Q7's blind spots.
With these features, plus 21-inch wheels, 'open sky' glass roof and automatic climate control, the Q7 4.2 TDI is priced from $123,900.
