Audi has revealed the A5 and S5 Cabriolet models which are due to go into production during the second quarter of 2009. Topping the range is the S5, powered by a supercharged 3.0-litre V6 with direct petrol injection. Peak power for this engine will be 195kW and drive will be via Audi's quattro all-wheel drive system.
All-wheel drive will also be channel torque from other high-performance engines in the range. According to Audi, the five engines (three petrol and two diesel) all feature direct injection and four of the engines are turbocharged. Audi offers these engines variously with a six-speed manual transmission, a continuously variable transmission (Multitronic) and Audi's electronically-controlled dual-clutch transmission (S tronic) for a total of seven powertrain variants.
All variants are fitted with a fabric folding roof that can open in 15 seconds and takes 17 seconds to close. By virtue of its fabric construction, the roof folds flatter than a steel folding roof and leaves as much as 320 litres of luggage volume available in the boot, even when the roof is lowered.
Audi plans to offer neck-level heating and solar-protected leather seat trim as options when the range go on sale in Australia, towards the end of 2009.
