The Finer Details

Due in Australia in the first half of 2027 to replace a model first launched here at the start of 2025, the revised Audi Q4 e-tron range also adopts simplified model names, upgraded technology and additional equipment.

The biggest saving comes with the new all-wheel-drive Q4 e-tron quattro SUV, which is priced at $81,650 – $18,168 less than the outgoing Q4 55 e-tron quattro’s $99,818 asking price.

However, the entry-level model also gets a smaller battery and less power and torque than the 45 e-tron SUV and Sportback it replaces.

The updated range comprises four variants, with rear-wheel-drive SUV and Sportback versions both priced at $71,650 plus on-road costs.

That makes the SUV $13,250 cheaper than the outgoing $84,900 Q4 45 e-tron, while the Sportback falls $14,850 from its current $86,500 price.

The new Q4 e-tron quattro SUV costs $81,650, a saving of $18,168 compared with the outgoing $99,818 Q4 55 e-tron quattro.

The quattro Sportback is priced at $83,250, making it $16,568 cheaper than the current Q4 55 e-tron quattro Sportback, which is also priced at $99,818.

Importantly, the $71,650 price of both rear-drive variants also places them below the new $75,000 price cap for the full federal Electric Car Discount fringe benefits tax exemption from April 1, 2027.

The more expensive quattro models will not qualify for the full exemption under the revised rules that come into effect in April 2027, although they will be eligible for the reduced FBT concession provided they remain below the applicable fuel-efficient vehicle Luxury Car Tax threshold.

Audi has also ditched the 45 and 55 numerical model designations.

The new entry-level rear-drive model is simply called the Q4 e-tron, while the dual-motor all-wheel-drive flagship becomes the Q4 e-tron quattro.

The rear-drive Q4 e-tron swaps its predecessor’s 82kWh gross-capacity battery for a smaller 63kWh unit, of which 59kWh is usable.

Its rear-mounted electric motor produces 150kW and 350Nm, well down on the outgoing Q4 45 e-tron’s 210kW and 545Nm.

Audi Australia has yet to publish a local driving range, but European versions are rated at up to 440km WLTP for the SUV and 451km for the Sportback.

Maximum DC charging power is 160kW and Audi claims the battery can be replenished from 10 to 80 per cent in 27 minutes.

The Q4 e-tron quattro retains an 82kWh gross/77kWh usable battery and dual-motor all-wheel drive producing 250kW.

It accelerates from 0-100km/h in 5.4 seconds, while European WLTP driving range is quoted at 494km for the SUV and 509km for the Sportback.

DC fast-charging capacity increases from 175kW to 185kW, with a claimed 10-80 per cent charging time of 27 minutes.

This is also the first Audi EV to feature bidirectional V2L charging.

The updated Q4 also introduces Audi’s latest ‘digital stage’ cabin layout, combining a 12.8-inch central touchscreen with an 11.9-inch Virtual Cockpit Plus digital instrument display.

An optional 12-inch passenger display is available on the quattro and is designed so its content cannot be viewed by the driver while the vehicle is moving.

Standard equipment on the rear-drive Q4 includes Matrix LED headlights, 19-inch alloy wheels, heated and electrically adjustable leather-appointed front seats, driver memory, three-zone climate control, ambient lighting, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and two cooled wireless phone chargers.

A 360-degree camera is standard across the range, along with trained parking and reverse assist, which can retrace the vehicle’s path for up to 50 metres.

The quattro adds an S line exterior package, 20-inch Audi Sport alloy wheels, sports front seats, selectable damper control, progressive steering and an augmented-reality head-up display.

The Road Ahead

The Q4 e-tron was Audi Australia’s best-selling EV in 2025, recording 939 sales, but deliveries have slowed as stocks of the existing model run down ahead of the update.

Just 216 Q4 e-trons were sold to the end of July 2026, allowing the newer Q6 e-tron to move ahead in Audi’s local EV sales race.

The substantial price reductions should make the Q4 more competitive against an expanding group of premium and mainstream electric SUVs, while the sub-$75,000 pricing of the rear-drive models could also broaden their appeal to novated-lease customers.

Orders for the new Q4 e-tron quattro are already open ahead of Australian deliveries in the first half of 2027, with ordering details for the rear-drive Q4 e-tron to be announced later.
