Audi has teased the next pair of electric vehicles it plans to launch before the year’s end – the 2022 Audi Q4 e-tron SUV and Sportback – as part of its promise to introduce 25 EVs by 2025.
Both electric SUVs will sit on Volkswagen Group’s dedicated EV platform (MEB), but we won’t know exactly how they’ll shape up until the Q4 duo’s world premiere in Europe at 7:00pm CET on April 14 (3:00am AEST on April 15).
That said, we’ve already had a close look at both the Audi Q4 e-tron SUV and the Audi Q4 e-tron Sportback in their concept forms, in 2019 and 2020 respectively.
And both Q4 body styles will ride on a 2770mm wheelbase and measure around 4.6 metres long and 1.9m wide.
Power will come from two electric motors, one at the front and the other at the rear, powered by an 82kW/h lithium-ion battery. While the rear wheels will provide power by default, the electric motor up front will be employed when the driver requires extra performance or traction.
Those credentials should make Audi’s new pair of e-tron SUVs good for a 0-100km/h sprint time of 6.3 seconds, as well as an estimated range of 450km (WLTP).
With the 500kg-plus battery pack placed low in the floor, the centre of gravity and weight distribution of both Q4s is said to be optimised, which should bring well-sorted dynamics.
The cabin should also carry over much of the same luxury and tech as Audi’s latest models, including a large digital instrument panel, augmented-reality head-up display, haptic feedback buttons and an airbag between the front seats.
Audi Australia is yet to confirm the local release of either Q4 e-tron but, as we’ve previously reported, both new electric SUVs appear likely contenders for the brand Down Under.
If the brand’s local arm introduces the Q4 model range Down Under, it will join the brand’s larger Audi e-tron SUV and Sportback models already on sale here.
Somewhat confusingly, Audi also plans to release battery-powered Q6 e-tron SUV and GT e-tron performance car models in the near future.
Stay tuned for more details when the Audi Q4 e-tron SUV and Sportback are revealed next week.
