Audi slashes A6 pricing by up to $9000
Big price cuts for A6 and A7 as Audi prepares for 3.0 TDI Biturbo release – and facelifted E-Class and 5 Series modelsAudi has hacked up to $9000 from the price of its A6 sedan and up to $5000 from the price of its A7 Sportback prior to the release of its range-topping new 3.0 TDI Biturbo engine in both models next month.
The German brand’s bristling 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 diesel engine makes its simultaneous Australian debut in the A6 and A7 on February 10, and produces no less than 230kW of power and 650Nm of torque.
That’s 50kW and 70Nm more than Audi’s single-turbo V6 diesel, which produces an extra 80Nm of torque as part of a 2013 model upgrade for both the A6 and A7, which now offer 180kW and 580Nm.
Audi’s new flagship diesel engine also out-performs the 3.0 TFSI V6 petrol engine that now produces 228kW/440Nm in both the MY13 A6 and A7 (up 8kW), as well as the 230kW/630Nm twin-turbo inline six that powers BMW’s 535d sedan ($121,500) and the 195kW/620Nm 3.0-litre V6 diesel found in the Mercedes-Benz E350 CDI sedan ($136,485).
However, it remains 50kW and 90kW shy of BMW’s new M-tuned 280kW/740Nm 3.0-litre triple-turbo straight-six diesel, which so far powers only the X5 and X6 M50d, and upgraded versions of both the 5 Series and E-Class will go on sale here following their global reveals at the Detroit motor show next week.
The 3.0 Biturbo engine is matched in both the A6 and A7 to an eight-speed automatic transmission and Audi's quattro all-wheel-drive system, and can accelerate the A6 sedan to 100km/h in 5.1 seconds while returning combined fuel consumption as low as 6.1L/100km.
It also comes with a unique sound symposer designed to make the diesel engine more like a high-performance petrol powerplant by imposing a “defined oscillation pattern on the exhaust flow”.
Pricing is yet to be announced for either A6 or A7 Biturbo model, and remains unchanged for entry-level A6 sedans and all A6 Avant wagons, including the 2.0 TFSI sedan ($77,900), 2.0 TDI sedan ($78,900), 2.0 TFSI Avant ($81,800) and 2.0 TDI Avant ($82,900).
But the 2013 A6 2.8 FSI quattro sedan’s Manufacturer List Price falls by $2400 from $93,400 to $91,000, A6 3.0 TDI quattro sedan pricing is reduced by $9000 from $116,500 to $107,500 and the price of the A6 3.0 TFSI quattro sedan shrinks by $7000 from $121,000 to $114,000.
Meantime, A7 Sportback pricing now opens $5000 lower at $137,750 for the 3.0 TDI quattro (down from $142,750), while the A7 3.0 TFSI quattro now costs $143,800 – down $4500 from $147,300.
At the same time, Audi Australia has added a reversing camera as standard equipment across the MY13 A6 range, while a new Technik package is also now available for $4950 and includes a 360-degree top-view camera system, LED headlights with high-beam assist, four-zone climate-control and an electric glass sunroof.
“We are constantly striving to offer our customers additional value and we believe that the new MY13 A6 sedan range presents them with an even more compelling purchase reason,” said Audi Australia Managing Director, Uwe Hagen.
“This new pricing structure will also allow the new A6 3.0 TDI Biturbo performance model to enter the market in a very strong position when it arrives in February.”
