Audi slashes S4 and S5 pricing
High-performance petrol models drop in price by around 12 per centAudi has taken the razor to the pricing of the S4 and S5 models in the local range, announcing a hefty discount of at least $14,000 for each variant.
The company has chosen to reposition the S4 and S5 models much closer to the rampaging SQ5 TDI SUV, which is priced around the $90,000 mark. Even the most affordable variant – the S4 sedan – will still be around $15,000 clear of the SUV however.
Powered by a 3.0-litre direct-injected and supercharged V6 – rated at 245kW/400Nm – all S4 and S5 variants are markedly cheaper, with the flagship S5 Cabriolet reduced the most, by $17,000.
"The Audi S4 and S5 models lead their class when it comes to dynamic performance, exclusive styling and advanced technology," said Andrew Doyle, Managing Director of Audi Australia – as quoted in a press release.
"The recent success of the SQ5 TDI has led us to re-align pricing of our TFSI petrol-powered passenger car models to bring them closer to the outstanding offer of the SQ5 TDI. Customers wanting a mid-sized performance vehicle from Audi now have a greater choice, at more attainable pricing.
"Given the increase in customer interest in these models, spurred on by the sensational new SQ5 TDI, we are delighted to be able to respond with increased value for these highly desirable performance models from our passenger car range."
Audi claims that there's been no knock-on effect in sales of the S4 and S5. If anything year-on-year sales of S4 and S5 combined have risen 475 per cent over the first quarter of 2014.

S4 Avant $108,500 ($123,400 -12.0%)
S5 coupe $119,000 ($135,400 -12.1%)
S5 Sportback $119,000 ($135,400 -12.1%)
S5 Cabriolet $129,000 ($146,000 -11.6%)
