A bit more of all-new Audi A1 teased

Audi has once again used its global social media channels to preview its second-generation A1 Sportback, this time releasing an image of the A1's front fender and large alloy wheel.

Painted a bright shade of canary yellow, the baby Audi pictured is thought to be the range-topping S-Line trim, hence, both the sporty Y-spoke alloys and the side skirts.

It's difficult to distinguish much else from the first tease of the all-new A1 body, other to say from previous spy shots it's clear the next A1 will be larger all round compared to the car it replaces.

Designers are known to also be keen to inject more dynamism into the design for the five-door-only A1 sequel, with even some rumours the smallest Audi will borrow design cues from its motorsport heritage in a bid to outshine its MINI competition.

Previewing the image on both Twitter and Facebook, Audi claims it will offer far more personalisation with the second-generation model, making the 2019 A1 "as individual as you".

Sickening market spin aside, expect the baby Audi to come with a wider range of colours and alloys, plus the additional option of being able to opt for both the roof and spoilers in different colours.

The latter option is clearly a ploy to help steal sales from MINI, which has successfully been offered different roof colours since the rebirth of the brand back in 2000.

Already confirmed to come with the car-maker's next-generation infotainment that replaces the old car's touchpad with an MMI Touch touch-screen, the 2019 A1 will benefit from technology lifted directly from the A8 limousine and new 2019 Audi A6.

The new, more advanced infotainment system will not only likely incorporate both gesture control and be capable of understanding natural voice commands in its millennial-pleasing 'Epic Mode' it will allow uses to doodle pictures and words when you're bored.

Significantly reducing the button count, it's thought the new system has been designed specifically with reducing driver distraction in mind, Epic Mode aside.

As well as the new infotainment system, Audi's next A1 is also almost certain to come with the latest 'virtual cockpit' customisable instrument panel.

From our first glimpse of the A1's interior, it appears the German car-maker is out to lead the class for quality, offering finishes like chromed bevel dials you'd normally find in more expensive luxury cars.

Beneath the skin, the little A1 will ride on the Volkswagen Group's latest MQB AO platform, which also underpins the recently launched Volkswagen Polo.

The new architecture is vital to improving the way the little A1 will drive. Both lighter and stiffer than the old platform, the baby Audi will be mostly front-wheel drive, but all-wheel drive will once again be offered on the sporty S1 that will follow.

Under the bonnet, the small Audi will also share the Polo's turbocharged range of engines, with the range kicking off with a small 1.0-litre three-cylinder and stretching to a 1.5-litre four-cylinder until the 230kW 2.0-litre four-cylinder Audi S1 arrives.

On sale in Europe later this year, the A1 is expected to arrive in Australia during the first half of 2019.
