Updated Audi R8 teased ahead of Paris motor show

German performance brand releases mystery teaser that could preview a freshened up supercar or an updated race car

Audi Sport has posted a video on its social media channels teasing what appears to be an updated version of the second-generation Audi R8 that went on sale back in 2015.

The short and shadowy vid, which appeared over the weekend, shows what looks like bonnet vents – suggesting new air intakes.

This has prompted some to predict that Audi Sport might be teasing a new R8-derived race car to compete in sports car racing, updating its existing R8 LMS.

If it's a mid-life update that's being teased, expect the R8 have a significant power boost over the current car.

Despite using the same 5.2-litre V10 as before, engineers are likely to have increased power and torque from 397kW/540Nm to match the more heroic 470kW/600Nm produced by the closely-related Lamborghini Huracan Performante.

If so, the facelifted R8 is expected to accelerate to 100km/h in less than three seconds and top out at around 340km/h.

As well as once again offering all-wheel drive as standard, Audi Sport is almost certain to introduce a follow-up to the limited-series rear-wheel drive R8 RWS.

The much-rumoured entry-level V6 version could also be on the cards.

Audi is expected to release more teases of the mystery R8 ahead of its reveal this Tuesday at the Paris motor show.
