Audi Australia has announced pricing and basic specification for the new-generation A3 Cabriolet ahead of its June launch.
The prestige importer today announced the new model will go on sale priced from just $47,300 for the entry-level model powered by the 1.4-litre TFSI COD ('Cylinder on Demand') engine, which is rated at 103kW, 250Nm and fuel consumption of 4.9L/100km. Audi expects the new base model to be the volume-selling car in the range.
The price position for the new entry-level model is close to $5000 less than the $52,150 asking price of the current A3 Cabriolet with 1.8-litre engine and S tronic transmission – formerly the entry-level model. That variant continues in the new range, but slightly cheaper now, at $51,990. Peak power and torque for the front-wheel drive 1.8 variant amount to 132kW and 250Nm respectively.
The same engine, albeit developing 280Nm, also powers the sole quattro variant in the range, priced at $54,900. For the same price as the 1.8-litre front-wheel drive A3 Cabrio buyers can opt for a diesel 2.0-litre TDI model, producing 110kW and 320Nm.
Audi has specified the 1.4-litre COD variant in the 'Attraction' trim level, and the other three variants are offered in the Ambition grade. The previous entry-level model was also trimmed to the Attraction grade – meaning the new A3 Cabrio in 1.8-litre front-wheel drive form should offer better value, with more features at a slightly lower cost. Audi Australia is saying little about the standard equipment list for the new A3 Cabrio however, preferring to wait until closer to the local launch.
What the importer is admitting, however, is the new car, which is based on the modular MQB platform that also underpins the latest A3 Sportback and VW's Golf 7, is larger than its predecessor, and offers four drivetrains including the quattro all-wheel drive variant – a first time for the Cabriolet range.
“The new A3 Cabriolet’s striking design makes it a ground-breaking car for Audi in this segment,” said Andrew Doyle, Managing Director of Audi Australia.
“This type of car is an emotional purchase. With its coupe-like silhouette, the new A3 Cabriolet offers customers an entirely new design experience and we expect that it will attract new buyers to the Audi brand, as well as existing customers who are drawn to the new styling.”
