A demonstration lap at race speeds by a ‘piloted’ Audi RS 7 over the weekend has massive ramifications for both motor sport and daily motoring.
It’s technology that’s sure to be banned in motor sport circles as soon as the FIA gets around to thinking about it. Otherwise motor sport will head down the same path as the fine art genre of Realism, after the advent of photography.
But the RS 7 is more important as a preview of the way the future will impact on the daily commute, the run down to the shops, or the holiday trip interstate. Its significance can hardly be underestimated.
