Aussie designers honoured in Detroit
Holden Design Studio awarded two accolades for Buick Avenir and Chevy Bolt show carsThe Chevy Bolt and the Buick Avenir concept cars have been praised and honoured in Detroit – reflecting on the work carried out by Holden's Port Melbourne Design Studio for each project.
Avenir, a large car design study, took out 'Best Concept Vehicle 2015' and 'Best Innovative Use of Colour, Graphics and Materials'. Holden's Design Studio was the lead team on the Buick's exterior design and the vehicle was assembled here.
The Chevrolet Bolt, which was built in Port Melbourne also, was one of the finalists for the 'Best Concept Vehicle 2015' prize. In its original form it was developed by GM's advanced design studio in South Korea, but the EV design study was taken through to full-size show car reality in Port Melbourne, with styling changes along the way.
"Avenir and Bolt EV are clear illustrations of the creativity and capability we have in the global design studio in Australia," said Michael Simcoe, Vice President of GM International Design.
"To have these vehicles recognised on the world stage and to receive not one, but two, awards from our peers is a fantastic achievement and one in which everyone should be immensely proud."
The EyesOn Design awards – the official design awards program for the North American International Auto Show in Detroit – are held in high regard by the industry, according to Holden.
"We are all very proud of what we have created so to receive these two awards from EyesOn Design is a great compliment and caps what has been a very exciting project," said Warrack Leach, Holden's Lead Exterior Designer.
