Aussie driver behaviour under the microscope in new study

The survey conducted by YouGov and commissioned by carsales asked more than 1000 Aussies to share their thoughts on car ownership and driver behaviours. ‘Car Truths’ gets under the hood of how Aussies drive, their relationship with cars, and perceptions of car owners based on the brand or type of car they drive.

From a driver etiquette and behaviour point of view, Aussies didn’t hold back with their thoughts and perceptions about other road users.

When it came to on road antics, 30% of Aussies pointed the finger at Holden drivers saying they were the most likely to swear colourfully in traffic. Holden drivers were also seen as most likely to get busted picking their nose behind the wheel (18%). Might be time to get some tinted windows!

Sports car drivers were also mentioned a few times with survey participants saying that they were the most likely drivers to blast music with the windows down (40%) and were also guilty of not waving ‘thank you’ to someone when letting them in (33%).

Driving skills and etiquette were also scrutinised with 1 in 5 Australians believing that Toyota drivers were more likely than other drivers, to leave a note if they accidentally sideswipe someone. While over a quarter of Australians think that SUVdrivers are always hitting other cars when they open their door (22%). At least if it was a Toyota SUV driver, they’d leave a note behind, hey.

A fifth of Australians think Land Rover and Holden drivers have accidentally hit the mirrors of a parked car while a quarter of Australian drivers have admitted to scraping the side of the car when pulling into a garage.
