Aussies battle ready at GT Academy

Six Australian finalists begin preparations for 2015 GT Academy at Silverstone in the UK

The Aussies came tantalisingly close to securing their first win in the GT Academy in 2014, but had to settle for second place in the end.

So can an all-new crack team of video gamers secure the gig of a lifetime, a million dollar racing contract with Nissan Motorsport – NISMO – in 2015?

Mentored by V8 Supercar champion Rick Kelly, who is also one of the judges who will decide the winner, the Aussie GT Academy participants for 2015 have recently arrived in London for the international race camp, and are currently at the Silverstone GP circuit undergoing medical checks and race gear fittings.

The six Australian hopefuls are:
Tyler Blackburn (20)
Nick Dalton (21)
Corey Creed (25)
Matthew Simmons (26)
Elliott Schutte (29)
Simon Feigl (30)

The Aussie boys will be up against stiffer competition this year, with finalists from the USA and North Africa joining Mexico and Turkey in their group.

All competitors will undergo a number of challenges, some purely physical, others mental, and of course there's also driving tests, where high-performance NISMO sports cars are involved on the GP circuit.

We'll have more reports on the progress of team Australia on Monday but if you want to keep abreast of the results over the weekend tune into the Facebook page, check out @GTAcademy and @NISMO on twitter or GT Academy on Instagram.
