Australian pricing announced for new Toyota Supra

Two-variant Supra range to go on sale Down Under from September, priced from $84,900

Toyota has today lifted the lid on the pricing for its GR Supra coupe range.

The two-variant A90 Toyota Supra line-up will be priced from $84,900 (plus on-road costs) when it arrives Down Under in early September, with the flagship version chiming in at $94,900 (plus on-road costs).

A new online reservation process that opens on June 19 is the only way to get your hands on one of the 300 examples to be available in Australia in the first 12 months. Toyota has confirmed it will select the first 100 buyers via a randomised ballot process.

"With such sharp pricing and only approximately 300 cars available in the first 12 months, we have also developed a new online sales process to ensure a fair allocation of vehicles and provide customers with an exclusive experience," said Toyota Australia vice president of sales and marketing, Sean Hanley.

"The Supra is one of the most exciting cars we've had in our line-up for more than 20 years and the anticipation and excitement from fans has been unprecedented with thousands of registrations of interest.

"The new centralised online sales process handled by a dedicated Supra concierge will ensure we keep customers updated at every step of the way and provide a bespoke and very personal experience, which is fitting for a vehicle of the Supra's calibre," he added.

The two-door Supra range will be powered solely by a 250kW/500Nm 3.0-litre turbocharged six-cylinder engine driving the rear wheels with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Toyota says the Supra will just to 100km/h in 4.4sec courtesy of launch control.

As with other markets, Aussie-spec Supra models are well-equipped and fitted with the latest safety features. An active limited slip differential is standard, so too adaptive suspension.

All grades receive Toyota’s full suite of Toyota Safety Sense driver assistance features, which includes adaptive cruise control, pre-collision assistance with cyclist detection, lane-departure alert and auto high-beam.

Traffic sign recognition is also fitted, along with blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, a reversing camera, rear parking sensors, a tyre pressure monitoring system and seven airbags.

Supra GT models are also equipped with LED lights front and rear, heated and folding wing mirrors and 18-inch alloy wheels.

Inside, the entry-grade Supra includes dual-zone climate control, keyless entry and ignition, heated and eight-way adjustable leather-accented seats, a self-dimming mirror and inductive phone charging.

High-grade Supra GTS (from $94,900 plus ORCs) adds high-performance brakes, head-up display, 19-inch alloy wheels and a premium JBL audio system with 12 speakers. The model is further available with a choice of two option packages: an Alcantara interior trim package or matte grey paint option at $2500 apiece.

The Supra range is otherwise available in a choice of seven paint colours. All are named after famous race tracks and include Fuji White, Suzuka Silver, Goodwood Grey, Monza Red, Silverstone Yellow, Le Mans Blue and Bathurst Black. The exclusive matte grey hue is named Nurburg Matte Grey.

"The GR Supra should be compared with vehicles in a much higher price bracket including top-end European sports coupes. It really is that good," Hanley continued.

"I am certain anyone who experiences it will appreciate the engineering, passion and precision that has gone into building what we believe is one of the best value, most engaging drivers' cars on sale in the world today."

So far there is no sign of a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder version of the born-again Toyota Supra for Australia, nor a manual gearbox -- which will become available here for its twin-under-the-skin, the BMW Z4 sDrive20i, later this year.

How much does the 2020 Toyota Supra cost?
