Kununurra is practically the furthest place from Perth without leaving the state of Western Australia.
It's located in the northernmost part of WA, near the Northern Territory border and happens to be the jumping-off point for the Australian Safari.
The event begins today, August 24 and finishes in Perth 5500km away, eight days later. 103 competitors have entered and, barring unforeseen mishaps, will start the long and demanding event at 8.00 am local time.
