Australian Safari triumph for Honda rider

Hederics takes out auto section and Grabham wins the bike section

Ben Grabham, mounted on a Honda, has won this year's Australian Safari in the bikes category. All the stars were in alignment for the rider, having won both the Finke and Hattah desert races earlier in the year.

Grabham placed ahead of RMA Yamaha rider, Jacob Smith. Aged 18, Smith is the youngest rider to compete in the event this year. He too had enjoyed pre-event success with a win in the Condo 750.

On four wheels, John Hederics in the PWR Holden Rodeo, co-driven by John Williams, won the auto section. Hederics has won the Safari on eight previous occasions, six of those on a bike. He finished one hour nine minutes ahead of second place-getter, Reg Owens and co-driver Russell Cairns in their Nissan Patrol.

Hederics and Williams covered nearly 2000km of competitive stages in 16 hours, 10 minutes.

We'll have further information in next week's motorsport round-up.
