Australian Tarmac Challenge begins this weekend...

...and the Carsales Network will be in the thick of it!

The Carsales Network has teamed with Renault to contest this year's Australian Tarmac Challenge beginning with the Victorian round this weekend. Over 70 entries have been received for the event across its three categories.

Carsales/Renault Sport will be competing in the Street Championship category driving the new Renault Sport Clio R27. Production editor Melissa McCormick will team with journalist Stephen Ottley to handle the driving duties. It will be the car's competition debut in Australia but should be well suited to the event given its pedigree.

Renault Sport engineers have developed the Clio R27 for track days and entry level motorsport. The 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine produces 145kW of power and 215Nm of torque, just like a regular Renault Sport 197. But the chassis and suspension has been specially tuned to be at home on the racetrack. The engineers have even fitted a rear diffuser to improve aerodynamic grip.

The Victorian round of the ATC will be run over three days at the Phillip Island race circuit, Holden's Proving Grounds at Lang Lang, the Haunted Hills Hill Climb and the DECA facility at Newborough.
