Entries are still open for the newly renamed Australian Tarmac Challenge (formerly the Dutton Rally) with the series starting in Victoria at the end of May. Details of the first event have been released and will see the field taking on challenges at Phillip Island, Holden's Lang Lang Proving Grounds and the new Haunted Hills Hillclimb.
Although there are already 56 confirmed entries for the opening round ATC organisers have confirmed there are still places available for those looking to get a taste of motorsport on a budget. The new rules and classes for 2009 mean competing is most cost-effective for amateurs looking to tackle their first event.
There are three categories -- Club Championship, Street Production and Motor Championship -- with no racing modifications required for any class. Street production competitors are even required to run on road tyres to further reduce costs.
The entry list is an eclectic mix of cars with a mix of Mitsubishis, Subarus, BMWs, Mazdas, Fords, a Caterham and even an MGB.
The Victorian round will begin at Phillip Island on May 29 before moving to the Holden Proving Grounds at Lang Lang on Saturday 30. The final day will be split between the Haunted Hills Hillclimb and the DECA facility at Newborough.
