Australia's Best Car awards
The results are in, and though only one Australian-made car made the cut, the winners are all very worthy of the title of Australia's Best CarsAfter an exhaustive testing phase, the winners of Australia's Best Cars awards were announced at a gala dinner last night. Audi walked away with the most awards, three in total, while Subaru and Hyundai scored two awards each.
Holden missed out on a gong this year, the 10th year the awards have been running, but Ford scored a win with its imported Fiesta and Toyota had the only Australian-made winner with Aurion, which took out Best Large Car.
Australia's Best Cars tested more than 280 vehicles across 12 categories throughout the year, a task undertaken by the Australian Automobile Association and constituent motoring clubs such as RACV, NRMA, RAA and RAC.
The winners of all categories are:
Best Small Car: Ford Fiesta LX
Best Mid-size Car Under $30,000: Hyundai i30 SX CRDi
Best Mid-size Car Over $30,000: VW Golf 118 TSI Comfortline
Best Large Car: Toyota Aurion AT-X
Best People Mover: Hyundai iMax CRDi
Best Sports Car: BMW 135i Coupe Sport
Best Luxury Sports Car: Audi TT-S TFSI quattro
Best Prestige Car: Subaru Liberty 3.6R Premium
Best Luxury Car: Audi A6 TFSI quattro
Best Recreational 4WD: Subaru Outback 2.5i
Best Luxury 4WD: Audi Q5 3.0 TDI
Best All-Terrain 4WD: Land Rover Discovery 4 SE TDV6
The Chief Executive of the AAA, Mike Harris, said the quality of cars being tested are always improving: "Each year we are seeing better produced, safer and more affordable vehicles on the Australian market and we congratulate the winning manufacturers and all finalists.
"These cars are assessed against three important criteria for consumers - value for money, design and on-road performance," added Mr Harris.
Best Cars Chief Judge, RACV's Ernest Litera, said the awards help motorists make informed decisions about new cars: "People want good, reliable information to use in making their choice of a new vehicle, and Australia's Best Cars is an awards program where every score on every vehicle is made available to help buyers make informed purchasing decisions.
"It is pleasing to see manufacturers focussing on improved features and amenities in vehicles, including an emphasis on safety. The judges, who come from each of Australia's motoring clubs, have had a tough job settling on the top three category finalists this year -- there are a lot of good cars on the Australian market," Mr Litera said.
