Australia's best cars together in Melbourne

No, it's not a collection of beautifully restored classics and it's not a single, manufacturer-sponsored showcase of all its latest models – rather, the Australian Motoring Festival is a multi-marque collection of current-model cars judged by Australian motoring associations to be the best in their respective categories.

To be held at the Melbourne showgrounds from March 26 to March 29, the Australian Motoring Festival is a virtual one-stop shop displaying the top three cars from 15 categories defined by the RACV, NRMA, RACQ, RAASA, RACWA, RACT and the AANT.

According to Gordon Oakley, who is the general manager of Motoring and Mobility at the RACV, "If you are in the market for a new vehicle, or considering a purchase in the near future, there is simply no better opportunity to get inside the very best cars available in Australia.

"This group of cars was selected as part of Australia's most independent evaluation of value for money, design and function, and on road performance of new vehicles.

"The range of vehicles that will be on display will offer something to interest any Australian family or automotive enthusiast, from the best family wagon, a Citroen Grand C4 Picasso, to the best small car (under $35,000), the VW Gold 90 TSI Comfortline."

The cars on show encompass everything from a sub $20,000 Mitsubishi Mirage ES to a $120,000-plus Range Rover Sport (pictured) and cover various powertrains, from petrol to diesel and hybrid.

Price of entry to the Australian Motoring Festival is $30 for adults and $20 for children.

RACV and VACC members get a ticket price reduction of "more than 30 per cent."
