Auto Skills Australia wins support from FCAI, VACC
A new coordinating body brings together stakeholders with an interest in the field of automotive industry trainingThe growing need for an organisation to represent the interests of automotive training organisations and associated stakeholders has led to the formation of Auto Skills Australia.
A wholly owned subsidiary of Manufacturing Skills Australia, ASA is so new to industry that a CEO is yet to be appointed, although the Melbourne-based organisation does have a Board of Directors in place. Among the directors are representatives from engineering associations, vehicle manufacturers, automotive retailers, construction, mining, power equipment, marine and bicycle industries.
"This is an important step forward for the industry and will provide a specialist, national voice on education and training matters in the automotive industry," Chair of the ASA Board of Directors Danielle Andrews said.
"It is vital that the industry has one, strong voice when communicating to governments, stakeholders and training providers on matters relating to automotive education.
"We are proud that all areas of the industry have come together to establish this vital body and we thank the Minister for Tertiary Education, Senator Chris Evans, for his support.
"Automotive technology is rapidly changing and the industry now has the confidence to move forward and support the development of high quality VET advisory and product services to the industry," she concluded.
Two principle training qualifications within the ASA's purview will be Retail Service and Repair (AUR05) and Automotive Manufacturing (AUM08). The ASA's arrival has been heralded by both the FCAI (Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries) and the VACC (Victorian Automobile Chamber of Commerce).
