The Avatr 06T electric wagon has been confirmed for an Australian launch in the second half of 2027, giving local buyers yet another intriguing alternative to the traditional European prestige sedan or SUV.
The sleek fully electric shooting brake will be the second model from Changan’s incoming Chinese luxury brand following the 07L SUV due in the first half of next year.
Speaking to carsales ahead of the Paris Motor Show, Changan Australia head of brand and marketing Andrew Haurissa confirmed the 06T wagon’s arrival and outlined ambitions to compete directly with established German premium brands.
With fellow Chinese newcomer Zeekr also squarely in the luxury market, Avatr intends to position itself as a more luxurious proposition that Geely-owned brand.
The 06T is already on sale in China where its specifications include a jaw-dropping 712kW flagship model, an 800-volt electrical architecture and very rapid DC charging.

Measuring 4940m long on a 2940mm wheelbase, the Avatr 06T is a substantial five-door wagon pitched against the forthcoming Zeekr 7GT and more expensive European offerings.
Chinese specs are impressive, particularly the unusual electric drivetrain. Rather than a conventional single-motor RWD layout, the 06T uses two independently controlled rear motors producing up to 502kW.
A flagship three-motor AWD version further adds a front motor for a total of 712kW of power and a claimed 2.78 second 0-100km/h time.
Both configurations are expected to hit Australia, though the final model range for our country remains unconfirmed at this stage.

In China, battery options include 75.5kWh and 89.3kWh packs with the latter delivering up to 741km range (CLTC) – or about 600km using the more severe WLTP testing cycle.
An 800-volt architecture supports a claimed 30 to 80 percent charge in less than 10 minutes, which is very fast.
Inside, a huge 35.4-inch panoramic dashboard display supplements a 15-inch central touchscreen and available 25-speaker Meridian stereo system.
Huawei supplies the sophisticated driver assistance tech though Australian-market functionality remains to be confirmed.

Haurissa said he would expect the Avatr wagon would carry a modest premium over an equivalent Zeekr model.
Zeekr’s 7GT launches locally later this year ahead of first customer deliveries taking place in early 2027, with Australian pricing expected to sit between $55K-$75K for that car.
One factor influencing Avatr's strategy is the federal government’s revised fringe benefits tax exemption which will favour EVs priced at $75,000 or lower from April 2027.
“Strategically, [a sub-$75,000 price would] be?the?right?thing?to?do but?it really depends on the variant?that?we?pick?as?well,” said Haurissa.
Avatr intends to open about 10 Australian dealerships initially – at least one in each major city – with expansion planned as its model range grows to four or five by the end of 2028.
The brand recently unveiled its large luxury SUV, the Avatr T09, which is pitched as Zeekr 9X rival and is also coming to Australia but not until 2028.
For the 06T wagon, Australian pricing, standard equipment and the final powertrain remain to be confirmed, likely early next year ahead of a late-2027 launch.
