BAC has revealed a new Marine Edition version of its hard-core Mono racer-for-the-road that has been re-engineered to be stored on a luxury yacht.
Boasting a strengthened chassis with new lifting points for a crane and special anti-corrosion point, the Marine Edition comes standard with a specially designed carbon-fibre crane arm and a climate-controlled container to protect it against the elements at sea.
The car itself remains unchanged. That means the 2016 Mono comes with the larger 227kW 2.5-litre Mountune-developed Ford engine, instead of the old Cosworth 2.3-litre.
Weighing the same 580kg as the old car, the Mono is said to sprint from standstill to 100km/h in just 2.8 seconds and to crack 300km/h (depending on final gearing).
The Marine Edition came about because BAC co-founder, Ian Briggs, used to design luxury yachts before he switched to designing cars. Briggs said the Marine Edition “combines my love of marine and automotive design”.
BAC says its new special-edition Mono will cost $1,000,000 -- four times the cost of the standard car’s already substantial $250,000.
Currently the Liverpool-based car-maker makes and sells just four cars a month.
