It's enough to make Doc Brown cry out 'Great Scott!' but the DeLorean Motor Company wants to buy the rights to the defunct Pontiac Solstice and revive the infamous brand. While company founder John Z DeLorean died in 2005, the DMC continues today with a base in Texas.
According to a report on the company's website and Facebook page, the company is interested in purchasing the intellectual property and manufacturing facility for the Pontiac Solstice. General Motors has been offering the Solstice and Saturn Sky, as well as the Delaware factory that produced the cars, for sale since hit financial trouble earlier this year.
Given that John DeLorean spent a large part of his career at Pontiac (and is credited with developing the icon GTO) there are obvious synergies to the deal.
"JZD always said that the best memories of his automotive career were at Pontiac, and that connection between JZD and Pontiac is probably one of the better known associations among car enthusiasts," James Espey, Vice President of the DeLorean Motor Company, told website Jalopnik.
Despite releasing these drawings of a potential DMC version of the Solstice and revealing the company has a Solstice GXP Coupe for evaluation, there is no information yet on just how DMC would fund such a project.
Also, no word on if the cars will be powered by Mr Fusion or come with Flux Capacitors...
