Badge of honour: GM reveals new Camaro badge and launch date

GM has confirmed it will launch its sixth-generation Mustang-rival on May 16 at a special event in Detroit

We’ve already seen a teaser video of a camouflaged sixth-generation Camaro being given a workout on track and now, late last night, GM revealed yet another tit-bit about its latest Ford Mustang rival the retro badge that will adorn it.

As well, Chevrolet also released a short sound clip of the car's angry V8 and announced that it will invite 1000 fans to a special event in Detroit on May 16, when the new Chevrolet Camaro will be officially unveiled.

The 1000 fans will be treated to more than just a glimpse of the Mk6 Camaro at the Belle Isle Indy race circuit in Michigan; they will also be offered hot laps of the circuit (in the passenger's seat) of a new Camaro Z/28.

Fans will also meet all those involved in the creation of Chevrolet's latest incarnation of its iconic muscle car.

The new Camaro's badge harps back to the original’s, launched in 1967, fuelling rumours the new coupe might pinch yet more of the early model’s design cues.

As we've already reported, the sixth-gen Camaro will be based on the same GM Alpha platform that underpins the small Cadillac ATS, rather than the current car’s Holden VE/VF Commodore undergarments.

The Camaro is also likely to be built in right-hand drive. If it is, it’s almost certain the Camaro will come here and go head-to-head sometime with its arch-enemy, the Mustang.
