Bangkok motor show: Toyota HiLux TRD Sports shown
Japanese car-maker teases sportier close-to-production HiLux at Thai showToyota Racing Development has revealed a HiLux TRD Sports concept at the Bangkok motor show.
Labelled as a ‘prototype’ version of Toyota's new HiLux, which goes on sale in Australia in October, the sporty pick-up concept is thought to be close to production.
According to Toyota Australia there are currently no plans to introduce
the HiLux TRD, these images of which first appeared on enthusiast website RevoClub Thailand, even if the Japanese car-maker green-lights production.
Even if that’s the case, however, expect to see
the TRD accessories shown on the concept to eventually trickle down and be
offered as dealer-fit options.
As well as external tweaks including a sports bodykit, tailgate spoiler and carbon-fibre mirrors, under the skin the new HiLux TRD is said to come with a bespoke off-road suspension that includes a beefy rear anti-roll bar to improve handling.
Toyota hasn’t confirmed what powers the Hilux TRD prototype, but it’s thought the concept has a tuned 4.0-litre V6 petrol. Thanks to the addition of a full sports exhaust, it’s expected the HiLux TRD will produce more than the standard car’s 207kW.
To help cope with the extra performance, the concept also comes with bigger TRD-developed brakes.
