Barn doors coming to Toyota HiAce

Toyota HiAce could account for more than half the mid-size van segment when dual rear door option arrives later this year

Toyota Australia has announced that barn doors will be coming to its local Toyota HiAce van range in the second half of this year in response to “strong customer demand”.

That’s pretty much all the information we have for the time being, with Toyota confirming it will share full details closer to the model’s launch.

The rear barn door option should boost HiAce sales alongside the newer Hyundai Staria Load, budget-friendly LDV G10 and Ford Transit Custom, all of which can be had with dual rear doors.

Despite being available only in liftback form so far, the HiAce still accounted for 43.6 per cent (2596) of all sales (5951) in the mid-size van segment in the first quarter of this year.

By comparison, Hyundai shifted 688 Staria Loads (11.6%), LDV sold 880 G10s (14.8%) while Ford delivered 493 Transit Customs (8.3%).
