Base petrol model joins Maserati Quattroporte range

New lower output twin-turbo V6 becomes fourth Quattroporte driveline option

Maserati has added a fourth driveline option to its Australian Quattroporte range. The Euro6 compliant twin-turbo V6 petrol is said to cut fuel consumption and emissions by up to 12 per cent, while still delivering 246kW.

The ‘new’ engine is mechanically identical to the existing 283kW 3.0-litre V6. Designed and manufactured by Ferrari in Maranello, the re-tuned mill now develops peak power at 5000rpm and offers 500Nm between 1750-4500rpm – with 90 per cent of that figure available from just 1600rpm.

In local tune the Quattroporte V6 twin-turbo is quoted with a 0-100km/h time of 5.6sec, and a top whack of 263km/h.

Maserati Australia says that in spite of its performance, the model is the most efficient petrol model in the brand's 50-year history, delivering a combined cycle fuel consumption figure of 9.1L/100km (and CO2 emissions of 212g/km). All Quattroporte engines feature idle-stop technology.

The new V6 Twin Turbo model sits slightly above the entry-grade diesel and is priced from $215,000 (plus on-road costs).

Maserati says it has also taken the opportunity to bolster equipment levels in the 2016 Model Year, adding safety aids that include Blind Spot Alert and a Rear Cross Path system. A powered bootlid can be operated from the key fob or by a wave of your foot below the rear bumper, while a Harmon Kardon audio system is now standard across the range.

Further enhancements include electrochromatic mirrors, Easy Entry remote door release, Siri-equipped voice control, and a larger range of optional stitched upholstery finishes.

"The addition of the 330bhp (246kW) Quattroporte is a measure of both the success of the new Quattroporte in taking the style, performance and exclusivity to a wider audience and our desire to enable more clients to enjoy the unique Maserati Quattroporte experience," said Maserati Australia, New Zealand and South Africa COO, Glen Sealey.

"The additional version provides a new entry point for the petrol-powered Quattroporte and yet maintains the benchmarks of what has made this model such an outstanding success."

The Model Year 2016 Quattroporte range is available for order now.
