Batey takes reins of FCAI

Alan Batey, Holden's successor to Mark Reuss, has been named as the new President of the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI). Batey replaced Reuss in the position of Managing Director after the American was offered a promotion and return to his homeland.

Now, Batey has also been elected to head the FCAI by the Chamber's Executive Committee. That role was also formerly held by Mark Reuss.

"I am pleased and honoured to represent the Australian automotive industry as President of the FCAI," Batey was quoted as saying in a press release issued by the FCAI.

"I believe that our automotive industry must continue to focus strongly on its commitment to improving vehicle safety and continuing to meet the challenge of improving environmental performance -- these will remain key priorities for the FCAI.

"I am also firmly committed to the future of automotive manufacturing in Australia and I look forward to working closely with the Federal Government as the industry prepares to implement the next phase of the New Car Plan for a Greener Future."

Batey will commence his new duties with effect from September 1.
