Beauties who love beasts

When we think of ‘beasts’, cars with aggressive aerodynamic bodywork and deep rumbling exhausts hurling down the road, come to mind.

Beasts are bold, brawny and brutal. They employ massive engines.

Beasts can also be devilishly handsome and possess incredible styling gravitas.

Beasts certainly sizzle and snarl. They bark and bite. And the ride is rapturous.

Many blokes love beasts, but how about women? Turns out a few do have the passion and motoring.com.au interviewed five women who unleashed their favourites.

Mustang GT aka “Filly Blue”
Jess
In a country where Ford enjoys a proud V8 history, Jess, 33, has certainly been stung by the Pony icon.

Not only does the 2016 Mustang GT impress with its grunty, torque-rich 5.0-litre engine, it’s got the right balance of visual swagger and gristle. The interior is replete with a sleek carbon finish with modern technology joining a touch of retro styling.

“I have always appreciated the GT’s heritage and its significance to automotive engineering and design over the years,” Jess enthused.

“It’s a classic car that’s been modernised to suit today’s enthusiast – me. You can’t beat the growl of a V8 engine.”

“The interior is really something to behold. The soft leather seating, electric sound system and gadgets are all very striking. And catching your eye on the pony shaped downlights on the ground as you open your doors… Talk about special touches.”

McLaren 570S aka “Kermie”
Natasha
The McLaren 570S in Mantis Green is a menacing beast which exudes luxury. Lifting its doors is like entering a fighter jet’s cockpit and this is where flirting with ballistic biturbo V8 power truly begins for Natasha, 35.

On start-up, the McLaren’s tasty theatrics are a sensory delight and its supremely balanced chassis, nimble handling and gun-slinging transmission simply overwhelm.

“This beast is definitely a head-turner and the green really brings out its vibrant personality,” Natasha told us.

“The sound on start-up is just incredible. I could turn it on and off all day just to enjoy the dramatic symphony. It’s intuitive and I can’t believe how effortless it is to drive, even around town. I’m in love.”

VW Kombi aka “Peace Beast”
Leah
Leah, 34, a flower-power child who loves the outdoors and all things fringe, is drawn to the iconic split-window 1967 Volkswagen Kombi.

While this bus doesn’t exactly snarl, nor is it particularly fast, it does stir the soul with its practical charisma, rusted patina and enduring hippy vibe. It dack-dacks down Australian country roads with panache - just throw in your guitar and you’re set for a melodic ride.

Globally, the Volkswagen Kombi has reached cult status – a beast-like presence by any measure.

“This is a beautiful vintage beast and it perfectly pairs with my love of exploring the great outdoors,” Leah told us.

“It’s a real classic and has stood the test of time, albeit rather rusty. I look at it through a kaleidoscope, and can see the many memories that friends and families have shared in this car and that really appeals to my sense of nostalgia. It’s also a reliable roadie for a 50 year old. Peace out”

Commodore SS V Redline aka “Thunderoar”
Lydia
The stonking Commodore SS V Redline in ‘Son of a Gun Grey’ sure packs a punch and is an impressive example of Australian automotive engineering.

With its big-banger 6.2-litre V8 engine, this has got to be Holden’s most accomplished and engaging factory fresh Commodore and Lydia, 35, loves the torque-rich bark of this beast.

“Who can resist that roaring V8 engine sound?” Lydia gushed.

“The power I feel when driving this car is overwhelming. I feel like the Queen of the road.

“And the car’s safety technology is outstanding, from the forward collision alert and lane departure warning to the blind spot indicators. The fit-out is sleek, clean and super comfortable. This is truly my dream beast.

“It’s called ‘Son of a Gun Grey’ which is appropriate because it drives like a bullet”.

BMW M3 Competition aka “Purple Rain”
Louise
Louise, 23, loves the BMW M3 Competition’s potent muscular soundtrack and silky smooth thrust.

This Bavarian beast is savagely quick and belts out 550Nm at less than 2000rpm.

With superb steering and excellent corner-carving, the M3 Competition is certainly a charismatic purple people eater which dazzles on the road.

“I can never look past a German car and, for me, they don’t get much better than BMW,” Louise extolled.
