Jaguar is giving an insight into its design process with a series of online video masterclasses to encourage creativity and skill development at home. Jaguar’s own car designers host the four-part series which follows the progress designing an electric I-PACE from the initial sketching stages, with expert advice and tips from each of the disciplines featured in the films.
Just like in the real design studio, the process starts with sketching. Chief Creative Designer Dominic Najafi gives a tutorial on sketching the I-PACE with a pencil and paper which can be easily done at home at the dinning table as he demonstrates. The sketch is then handed over to Matthew Beaven, Chief Exterior Designer, who transforms this dinning room sketch idea into a professional digital render using Photoshop.
The third masterclass is with Chris Scholes, Senior Alias Modeller who creates an exterior design proposal, taking the 2D digital render and bringing it to life with 3D surfaces using Autodesk Alias software. Finally, CG Artist Elliot Brett from the Design Visualisation team brings the I-PACE to life, detailing how it is taken from storyboard through to animation.
Definitely worth a watch if you’re keen on trying your hand at car design or are a graphic designer looking for a fun new project to try. The first three masterclass episodes are available to view now.
