Beefed-up BMW X3 M and X4 M are also pricier
Price hikes for Bavarian car-maker’s high-performance mid-size SUVs, which are now quicker than everThe upgraded 2022 BMW X3 M and X4 M Competition will not only bring enhanced design, tech and performance when they arrive later this year, but also price increases.
Due to hit local showrooms in the fourth quarter of 2021 as part of the facelifted X3 and X4 range, the updated mid-size performance SUVs will cost $160,900 (X3 M) and $167,900 (X4 M) plus on-road costs.
That’s $3000 more than before, with MY21 X3 M and X4 M Competition models previously priced from $157,900 and $164,900 plus ORCs respectively.
Both SUVs continue to pack BMW M’s beefy twin-turbo 3.0-litre inline turbo six matched to an eight-speed M Steptronic transmission, but while peak power output remains a respectable 375kW, maximum torque rises by 50Nm to 650Nm.
As a result, 0-100km/h acceleration performance improves by 0.3 seconds to just 3.8sec, matching BMW’s larger X5 and X6 M models as well as the Audi RS Q8, Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 S and Porsche Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid.
On the outside, the pair of performance SUVs bring new adaptive LED headlights, a single-piece double kidney grille and a new rear bumper and diffuser.
Bimmer’s most advanced Driving Assistant Professional safety suite will also come standard for the first time in the X3 and X4 M, bringing semi-autonomous driving functionality in addition to autonomous emergency braking (AEB), lane assist, blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control and more.
Fresh additions include remote software update functionality, BMW Laserlight and Reversing Assistant.
Other standard gear includes 21-inch M alloy wheels with a choice of two designs, an M Sport differential, M adaptive dampers, panoramic glass roof, tri-zone climate control, harmon/kardon audio system, park assist, electric tailgate and BMW’s 12.3-inch Live Cockpit Professional.
A leather-clad M steering wheel also comes standard, along with heated front seats, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, navigation, digital radio and a head-up display.
