As tipped, the 2025 Genesis G80 EV Magma concept has debuted at the Beijing auto show without the signature burnt-orange colourway of the Korean luxury brand’s other Magma cars.
Instead, the big electric sports sedan concept dons a stunning royal blue and black colour scheme that makes it decidedly more understated, yet gives it an even more imposing vibe than its vivid orange stablemate, the GV60 Magma, thanks also to its hunkered-down stance, widened rear haunches and aggressive design makeover.
The front and rear aprons have both been overhauled accordingly and make the optional G80 Sport makeover look plain in comparison, accentuated by the black chrome mesh, carbon mirror caps and two-tone black and blue 21-inch lightweight wheels.
No concrete mechanical details have been confirmed so far, but Genesis has confirmed the concept rides on “track-tuned suspension” and features equally powerful brakes, presumably to counteract a significantly more powerful powertrain.
Odds are the G80 EV Magma concept will borrow hardware from the Hyundai IONIQ 5 N, suggesting outputs of more than 450kW/750Nm and a sub-4.0sec 0-100km/h time.
Inside the cabin there are sports seats, Alcantara and quilted leather upholstery, plus blue-weave carbon trim.
“G80 EV Magma Concept marks the second electric model in the Magma program, highlighting a more athletic aspect to Electrified G80, perfectly embodying power, performance, and style,” Genesis said.
“The Genesis Magma program infuses the brand with a new dynamism and marks the brand’s exciting entry into the realm of high-performance cars.
“Through Magma, Genesis endeavours to redefine the boundaries of performance and luxury, with the ultimate aim of developing a high-performance Magma variant for each existing model in the line-up.”
Word is the G80 EV Magma concept could make an appearance at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed to take on the famous hill climb course – just as the IONIQ 5 N did last year.
The development associated with it and the wider Magma program is anticipated to pave the way for an all-electric Genesis supercar – previewed via the Genesis X Gran Berlinetta Vision Gran Turismo Concept – further down the line.
