BMW has unveiled its much-promised all-electric X3 at the Beijing motor show today.
Labelled as the iX3 Concept but clearly close to production, the battery-powered SUV debuts BMW’s fifth-generation eDrive electric drive system and new and more powerful batteries.
BMW is claiming more than 200kW output and a real-world range of 400km for its first-ever all-electric SUV. The battery size is rated at 70kWh.
The iX3 is expected to arrive in 2020 as a direct rival for the upcoming Jaguar I-PACE, Mercedes-Benz EQC and Audi e-tron.
This is the second all-electric BMW after the i3 city-car, but the first to be spun from an existing model range. Overall, BMW has committed to launching 12 all-electric vehicles by 2025.
